Toto is a sweet boy who has a very playful, terrier type personality. He loves people and other dogs. Has been around one cat which he ignored. This little guy belonged to an elderly lady whose house flooded. She was evacuated against her will and her dogs were left to fend for themselves. The dogs found high ground where they took refuge, and when the water went down, neighbors began feeding them. The original owner was unable to return to her home because of the flood damage and no one ever returned for the dogs. When the situation was discovered, different rescues took in the abandoned pets. When we first received little Toto he was suffering from malnutrition, severe digestive upset, and pancreatitis which our vet said was a result of eating fatty table scraps that the neighbors had fed him. He has recovered fully and is very healthy. Despite his ordeal, his temperment has always been unfailingly cheerful. He has lived indoors at  since he came into rescue and has gotten along great with John's personal pets. Toto is super cute, just a really nice little dog. Toto is HEARTWORM NEGATIVE  and fully vetted.

He is mostly housetrained, used to living indoors and going out into the fenced yard (off leash) to potty. But if he needs to go and does not get taken out immediately, he will soil the floor. I also think that when he goes out into the fenced yard with the other dogs, he gets busy playing and forgets to potty.  I think the use of a crate and a regular schedule would greatly benefit him.

Toto  either needs a fenced in yard or someone who will play with him and see to it that he gets regular exercise and play time. He is not a couch potato but on the other hand he is not real hyper. If he is let out into a fenced yard for exercise, I recommend a 5 foot fence because he is very bouncy and could jump a low fence. Toto does bark when the other house dogs bark and he tends to bark when he is bored and lonely. I would not say he barks excessively.

He walks fairly well on a leash but he does need some leash training. He is little and quick and can slip a collar pretty easily so you have to be careful leash walking him if he tries to back out of his collar. He does OK in a crate. No real problem riding but he should probably ride crated or you will have him bouncing all over the car just because he is young and playful. He would probably ride well in someone's lap, though. He loves attention. I have never tried him around water so I don't know if he swims, He is affectionate, kind of goofy, bouncy, good natured, and seems very intelligent.  Have never had him around kids but he would probably be fine. He has never shown the slightest bit of aggression or tendency to be snippy.

I think he would get along with most anybody. He would enjoy a companion dog to play with but its not a necessity. He would be fine in an apartment unless he barked too much, He shares a house here with several other dogs who are rather noisy and when they bark, he barks. He might be much quieter with fewer/quieter dogs. If he sounds lie a match for you please read on for how to apply!

As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters.  Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can.  It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process.  Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Adoption Fee is $350 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
